The NEET 2026 Paper Leak: A Crisis of Trust, Examination Integrity, and the Future of Medical Aspirants
The NEET-UG 2026 exam, which was scheduled for May 3, was officially called off by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 12 after strong evidence showed that a large number of exam questions had been leaked. A handwritten "guess paper" with around 120 exact questions from the Chemistry and Biology sections was shared through WhatsApp and Telegram days before the exam. The investigation started by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) soon became a bigger case handled by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), uncovering a group that worked across states, with one part based in a printing press in Nashik and another in coaching centers in Sikar, Rajasthan. The cancellation has affected more than 22 lakh students aiming for medical careers, leading to big protests by students, strong reactions from political leaders, and a fresh discussion about the reliability of India's current system for conducting high-stakes offline exams.
